Marseille could be set to start a transfer scramble by selling Cameroon defender-cum-midfielder Stephane Mbia.

The 26-year-old is highly rated at the Stade Velodrome and throughout Ligue 1, and has at points been a target for English side Arsenal and German giants Bayern Munich.

And now that new Marseille coach Elie Baup is, according to sources in France, willing to listen to offers for the powerful defender, the duo’s interest, along with that of a number of other clubs, could well be piqued.

Marseille are thought to be ready to part with the 26-year-old for offers of between €10M and €15M as they look to raise funds to rebuild the team under Baup.

The Cameroon international landed at the Stade Velodrome in 2009, joining the south coast outfit from fellow French side Rennes.

Strong in the tackle and full of energy, Mbia quickly established himself as one of Marseille’s key players and also gained a number of admirers abroad.

Last season Mbia made just 15 appearances in Ligue 1 however, as Marseille endured a wretched season.

He did clock up five games in the Champions League though, a bright spot for the Ligue 1 giants as they reached the quarter-final stage.
