Fiorentina have ruled out selling in-demand forward Stevan Jovetic in the January transfer window.

Jovetic missed today’s 4-1 La Viola victory in Serie A over Atalanta while he recovers from injury, but his quality was still saluted post match by sporting director Daniele Prade.

With the Montenegrin a wanted man, given that English champions Manchester City have confirmed they are following his situation closely and another Premier League club, Arsenal, have been mooted as holding an interest, there has been speculation over a January move for the 23-year-old.

Prade though has dismissed that, declaring that the forward, who has been compared to Roberto Baggio for his technical abilities, is essential to coach Vincenzo Montella’s side.

"He is our star player", insisted the sporting director, when asked about a possible departure by Mediaset Premium.

"With him on the pitch we have scored eleven goals, without him seven.

"There is no transfer, he stays until June, then in the summer we will assess the situation."

Prade also pointed out that it is difficult to sign quality players in the winter window, in another nod to why Jovetic cannot be sold, with an eye too on potential reinforcements.

"It is hard to find great players in January.

"If we buy a player then it is because they can push us forward. We are pleased with our strikers."

Fiorentina are having a fine season at present and currently sit third in Serie A.

La Viola are increasingly targeting a top three Champions League finish.
