Arsenal are still keeping a close watch on Tunisia international defender Aymen Abdennour.

The Gunners sent scout Gilles Grimandi to watch Abdennour in action for Toulouse against Nice in Ligue 1 on Sunday, according to the Nice-Matin.

However, Grimandi was left having made a wasted trip as Abdennour was ruled out of the match through injury.

Arsenal’s interest in the 23-year-old left back is not new and first emerged almost a year ago, when they began to scout Abdennour along with another English Premier League side in the shape of Stoke City.

Arsene Wenger’s men did not bid in the 2012 January transfer window though and Abdennour penned an extended contract with Toulouse in February.

But his progress is still being watched closely by the Gunners.

Toulouse currently sit ninth in Ligue 1 following a mixed start to the season.

Abdennour has played in 12 of the club’s 13 Ligue 1 games, with Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Nice the first he has missed.

He is under contract at Toulouse until 2016.
