Is Wesley Sneijder heading to Tottenham Hotspur? According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Dutch playmaker has already agreed in principle to move to White Hart Lane, leaving only the transfer fee to be settled upon.

Sneijder’s current club Inter are desperate to offload the 28-year-old and talks are under way with Tottenham to find common ground on the amount to be paid for the former Real Madrid star.

The Holland international has been sidelined at the San Siro after refusing to sign a new contract and was allowed to head off for his Christmas break early.

A fresh deal would have taken the amount he earns down from €6M per year to €4M per year – and with two and a half years left to run on his current contract, the case for Sneijder to sign was not compelling.

Inter have sought to prove they can do without the player and coach Andrea Stramaccioni even insisted he has options of equal quality in midfield.

As a result, Sneijder has made just five appearances in Serie A this season.

It is unlikely Spurs will have a clear run to Sneijder’s signature however.

In Paris, PSG sporting director Leonardo is a big fan of the playmaker, even if coach Carlo Ancelotti has yet to be persuaded of the merits of signing him.

Sneijder has options in Russia too, with Anzhi Makhachkala and Zenit St. Petersburg keen, while in Germany, Schalke have been mooted as contenders for his signature, a move which would see the Dutchman link up with countrymen Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Ibrahim Afellay.

Turkey too could be a potential destination, with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce both prepared to offer him a home.
