Highly-rated defender Toby Alderweireld is refusing to let transfer talk cloud his preparations for Belgium’s crunch 2014 World Cup qualifying matches.

The Ajax centre-back has been heavily linked for a move away from Holland, with Liverpool the most frequently-mentioned of names in the mix.

Alderweireld had previously denied there had been any agreement with Liverpool, whilst his exploits in the Eredivisie have brought the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United to his doors.

However, the 24-year-old is attempting to keep his focus on Belgium’s qualifier against Serbia on Friday, telling Het Laatste Nieuws: "I’m trying not to think about [transfers] just now.

"My father and my agent are engaging with interested clubs, and I told them that I want to hear nothing from them until Friday.

"I just want to be busy with the match against Serbia."

Roma have been the most persistent of competitors for Liverpool, but uncertainty over the direction in which coach Aurelio Andreazzoli wants to move has hindered their efforts.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has confirmed keeping Alderweireld, who made 33 appearances in the Eredivisie this season, at the club is an "unrealistic" goal, with his contract set to run out in 2014.
