Liverpool and Juventus have joined the race for Lyon playmaker Clement Grenier, as the likelihood of the France international leaving the Stade Gerland this summer increases.

Arsenal have made the running for Grenier, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sending his scout Gilles Grimandi to watch the starlet in action, something which caused Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas to instantly respond.

Indeed, Les Gones’ supremo informed Wenger that to steal Grenier away from the club he would need to shell out a figure similar to that which Bayern Munich are paying Borussia Dortmund for Mario Gotze – €37m.

Grenier’s contract however runs until 2014, putting Lyon in a weaker bargaining position than that which Dortmund held, and which eventually forced Bayern Munich to meet Gotze’s buy-out clause.

And now Arsenal have company.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Liverpool and Juventus are both monitoring Grenier’s situation with interest and could launch a bid.

Lyon president Aulas has not given up hope of persuading the 22-year-old to extend his contract with Les Gones, arguing that Grenier still has some maturing to do before he leaves France.

Grenier made 28 appearances in Ligue 1 for Lyon last season, as Les Gones finished third and secured Champions League football for 2013/14.
