Borussia Dortmund have identified Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen as a priority target as Ajax appear close to securing his successor’s signing, according to German sports magazine Kicker.

Eriksen’s stay in Amsterdam looks set to end this summer, but it is understood Ajax have already set their sights on a replacement in Adam Maher.

Currently at AZ Alkmaar, Maher could be on his way out, provided Ajax come up with the "right price", as revealed in May, which will pave the way towards Dortmund for Eriksen.

While it is understood Ajax and Maher have already agreed upon a four-year deal, nothing official has been reported yet.

If all goes to plan, Eriksen looks set to give Dortmund a healthy boost, especially following a summer where several names have left for greener pastures.

And it is in Mario Gotze’s position that Eriksen has been tipped to give Dortmund the impetus, while Ajax are expected to be richer by €15m if the deal goes through.

The attacking midfielder, who joined Ajax in 2010, has enjoyed a profitable season in Amsterdam, making 33 appearances and scoring 10 goals.

He himself appears very keen to join Dortmund, having praised coach Jurgen Klopp and claiming the style of football in Germany would suit him very well.

However, Dortmund will have to fend off competition from the likes of Liverpool and AC Milan, who are also interested in the 21-year-old.
