Wolfsburg have made a concrete move for Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo by contacting their Bundesliga rivals about signing the 26-year-old.

With the capture of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona, the Bavarians are ready to cash in on Gustavo, who has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, in addition to Wolfsburg.

And it is the Wolves who have pounced first, making a play to tempt the midfielder to the Volkswagen Arena, but going through the proper channels.

"We have contacted them and expressed our interest", Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told Bild.

"We want to do things properly, but there are still some obstacles", he added.

The gun looks to have now been fired on the chase for Gustavo, though it remains to be seen if any other clubs will firm up their interest to rival Wolfsburg.

Gustavo may also decide not to be pushed out of the Allianz Arena, having previously indicated his desire to stay.
