Tyneside giants Newcastle United are believed to be planning a move for Marseille's 23-year-old attacking midfielder Andre Ayew, according to Le 10 Sport.

Ayew has been on the radar of Merseyside outfit Liverpool in recent months, although a concrete offer from the Premier League club is yet to materialise, despite the Ghana international issuing a come-and-get-me plea.

The player, for his part, has already admitted he would not be able to say no to a club with the stature of Liverpool, should they indeed make a bid.

The interest certainly prompted a response from club president Vincent Labrune, with the Marseille supremo insisting his club will not be letting go of Ayew unless they receive a "big offer".

Now, it appears the Liverpool could find themselves engaging in a bidding war for Ayew with Alan Pardew's Newcastle, as the Magpies look to add another French-speaker to their ranks.

Indeed, Newcastle are already preparing for the departure of talented midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who has been the subject of a bid from Arsenal and interest from Paris Saint-Germain, and are willing to part ways with €10m just to seal the arrival of Ayew to St. James Park.

Ayew made a total 45 appearances with the Stade Velodrome outfit last term, scoring 42 goals and providing 12 assists along the way.

He has a contract with Marseille until the end of the 2014/15 season.
