Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira has stressed that his club are not interested in signing Arsenal starlet Joel Campbell this summer.

The Costa Rican winger is expected to leave the Gunners this summer as his first team opportunities at the Emirates are not likely to improve next season, though he has left his future in Arsenal's hands.

After warming the bench in the first half of last season, the 23-year-old joined Villarreal in the January window and was a regular for the Yellow Submarine.

However, his chances at Arsenal are not expected to improve next season and he has already been linked with a move to a number of clubs across Europe.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce are interested in signing Campbell and David Moyes is also said to be plotting to take him to Real Sociedad this summer.

Benfica were mooted to be interested in the 23-year-old but the club president has shot down any suggestion of making a move for the Arsenal forward.

When asked about their interest in Campbell, Vieira told Portuguese sports daily A Bola: “He is not in our plans.”

Campbell has earned 44 caps for Costa Rica and was one of the players who caught the attention with his performances in last summer’s World Cup.

However, he made just three starts for Arsenal last season before moving to Villarreal in the middle of the campaign.
