Fenerbahce remain confident of signing Robin van Persie from Manchester United, with the club's sporting director having been in England today for talks with the Red Devils.

The Turkish club's Italian deal-maker Giuliano Terraneo, a former goalkeeper who turned out for clubs such as Torino, AC Milan and Lazio, is doing his best to make the deal happen.

And according to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia, Terraneo was in England today to speak to Manchester United officials as the wheels on a transfer continue to move.

It was reported in England over the weekend that Van Persie has already agreed personal terms on a four-year contract with the Yellow Canaries.

His agent is playing it cool over any move and insists it is not his policy to speak publicly on any prospective transfer.

Van Persie has just a single year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and there is little sign of an extension on the horizon.

A big-money deal, running for four years, in Turkey may tempt the Dutchman and former Fenerbahce star and Netherlands team-mate Dirk Kuyt has been talking up a move to his countryman.

Fenerbahce are still confident of signing Van Persie as they bid to present their own big name forward to rival Galatasaray's signing of Lukas Podolski
