In-demand Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi has linked up with his team-mates following an extended summer break.

The Argentina defender was granted extra time off by the Spanish side due to his exertions in this summer's Copa America, but has now joined his club's pre-season preparations.

It had been thought Otamendi might not return to Valencia this summer amid serious interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United.

But Valencia have stuck to their stance that Otamendi will not be allowed to leave unless his buy-out clause of €50m is met by an interested club.

That has caused little movement, despite Otamendi offering to take a pay cut to help a transfer go through and his agent holding talks with both Manchester City and Manchester United.

For now Otamendi is at Valencia's disposal and has joined the group to prepare for the upcoming campaign.

And he has been pleaded with to stay put at Los Che, being dubbed a crucial player for the club by striker Paco Alcacer and urged to stay put at the Mestalla.

Nevertheless, the Argentina international remains keen to move on from the Mestalla this summer and has not changed his view in terms of a transfer.
