West Ham United legend Trevor Morley thinks that the club's new signing Havard Nordtveit is a sign boss Slaven Bilic will look to make the Hammers stronger defensively over the summer.

The Premier League outfit today announced the signing of Norway international Nordveit, who will join on a five-year contract which his current contract at Borussia Monchengladbach expires at the end of June.

Morley does not feel Nordtveit will walk into the West Ham side, but he does believe the defensively minded midfielder offers a glimpse of what Bilic will try to do this summer.

The former West Ham striker told TV2: "West Ham have made some good signings, so there is some pressure on him.

"But Nordtveit has good qualities", Morley explained.

"Bilic will probably make the team a little stronger defensively.

"Slaven was a warrior when he played and it looks like he likes Nordtveit's style."

West Ham conceded 51 goals in their 38 Premier League games this season, a total higher than any other side in the top eight.

The Hammers' finish of seventh in the table means they must wait to see if Manchester United win the FA Cup to find out whether they will be in next season's Europa League.
