Kalmar FF sporting director Thomas Andersson-Borstam admits he has never known such interest in a player as there is at the moment with the club's striker Marcus Antonsson, who is on the radar at English Championship trio Aston Villa, Cardiff City and Leeds United.

Antonsson is in red hot form in this year's Swedish Allsvenskan and has already found the back of the net on ten occasions in 12 appearances to be the league's highest goalscorer at present.

The 25-year-old striker has also scored three goals in six Swedish Cup games and Kalmar have already admitted that bids are on the table for the player.

And Andersson-Borstam has been stunned by the level of interest in the striker, something which could lead to the Swedish club pocketing a healthy transfer fee from the sale of a player signed in 2014 from Halmstads.

The sporting director told Swedish daily Barometern: "I have never experienced such major interest for a player.

"Now, we're talking about a forward who is the Allsvenskan's top scorer. He is one of the most sought after players."

It has been suggested that Kalmar could earn a fee of €1.5m from Antonsson's sale, but Andersson-Borstam is not ready to take the striker's departure for granted yet, even if his side are eyeing potential replacements.

"It's a little too early to say so [that he will go] and get ahead of ourselves.

"It is clear we are working in parallel with a plan B, but things should be handled in the correct order."
