Tottenham Hotspur have slapped in a bid for Paraguay international striker Antonio Sanabria, however the English side's offer does not meet Roma's expectations.

Sanabria shone during a loan stint in La Liga with Sporting Gijon last season, helping the Spanish side to survive in the top flight and is now wanted at White Hart Lane by Mauricio Pochettino.

But Spurs' initial offer for Sanabria is not good enough for Roma.

According to Sky Italia, Tottenham have put forward a bid of €9m for the Paraguayan, but Roma want €12m, meaning the English club are €3m off the Serie A's side's asking price.

Pochettino's side will now have to improve their offer if they are to take Sanabria to the Premier League.

Roma have already knocked back a bid from Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan for Sanabria, given the striker made it clear he has no intention of moving to Russia this summer.

Sanabria has also attracted attention from Real Madrid and Sevilla, but it remains to be seen whether either Spanish side will lodge a bid.
