Leicester City and Genk have an agreement in principle over signing highly rated midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

The 19-year-old, who has been in fine form for Genk in the present campaign, has also been strongly linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, while Chelsea too were credited with monitoring the Nigerian’s progress in Belgium.

However, it seems Premier League champions Leicester have won the race to sign Ndidi, who has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Genk in the present campaign, netting three times.

Although work permit issues and other details still need to be dealt with, it has been claimed that Leicester have an agreement in principle worth £15m with Genk for Ndidi.

The starlet, who is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Foxes, has thus far amassed 78 appearances in all competitions for the Belgian outfit, scoring seven times and setting up three goals.

Ndidi also has six senior caps for Nigeria to his name, with the youngster’s present contract with Genk running until the summer of 2020.

He only put pen-to-paper on a new deal with Genk in February this year.

Leicester will hope the defensive midfielder can plug the gap left by N'Golo Kante's departure for Chelsea in the summer.
