Neymar’s father has revealed that his son’s future at Barcelona is in doubt, news which is sure to alert Manchester United.

The duo have had regular run-ins with Spain’s tax system for the past 18 months which has made the Brazil international’s future at the Camp Nou uncertain.

Last month Neymar's father admitted Manchester United's interest in his son, while an ex-Barcelona president warned the striker could be sold.

Neymar has been in great form since joining the Catalan giants from Santos in 2013, and has thus far scored 67 goals in 106 appearances in all competitions for the club.

However, the 23-year-old’s sparkling form on the pitch has often been overshadowed by tax evasion controversies off the field.

And Neymar Sr insisted that his son may have to leave Barcelona if the Spanish government do not support their tax cases.

"We've begun contract renewal talks, but there are outstanding issues that concern us, and which need to be resolved”, he told Catalan radio station SER Catalunya, as reported by Marca.

“We shouldn't be having to put up with this uncertainty regarding our taxes and whether we are going about things in the right way.

“We need to find out whether Spain is accepting of our situation. It's not easy for us because we're getting it from all sides, from both the Brazilian and the Spanish tax systems.

“We're speaking with all of these parties to try to work out how we should deal with this issue, because what we don't want is to still be in Spain two, three, four, five or ten years down the line and to then receive a nasty surprise.

"We own the Neymar brand, which has been running as a business since 2006, and we need the peace of mind that comes from knowing that everything is in order.

“We need to do things properly, and ascertain whether in Spain we'll be allowed to carry out our work. I don't want to use the word persecution, but if the working environment here is not a good one, we won't be able to remain in Spain and will have to leave the country.

“If we're a source of problems for Spain, we can't stay here. We've never experienced such major tax issues."

Neymar, whose present deal with Barcelona runs until 2018, has been the main driving force at the club this season in the absence of talisman Lionel Messi.

Neymar Sr’s outburst has come at an inappropriate time for Barcelona, who are due to face their arch-rivals Real Madrid on Saturday.
