RB Leipzig have withdrawn from the race to sign Breel Embolo from Basel, despite holding what were described as "good discussions" with the Swiss giants.

The German side have been on Embolo's tail for much of the year and had been confident of adding him to their squad; indeed, at one point it appeared the transfer was all but done.

But according to Swiss daily Blick, RB Leipzig have now pulled out of talks with Basel to sign the Switzerland interntional.

The development could be as a result of Manchester United's rising interest in Embolo.

Jose Mourinho is claimed to have spoken to Embolo's agent and now passed the matter over the super agent Jorge Mendes to put a deal in place to take the forward to Old Trafford.

The German side's bid for Embolo was €15m, while Basel have been looking for €25m, a sum Manchester United will have no problem affording.
